Yarnlume™ Coastal No.01 Shape the Shore.
Yarnlume™ Coastal No.01
Shape the Shore. Build the Waves. Let the Coast Move.

A dimensional coastal fiber-art project designed to turn yarn into rolling surf, windswept dunes, wet sand, sea grass and the quiet movement of the shoreline.
Coastal No.01 is not a flat beach scene. It is a layered fiber landscape built around motion. The sea moves horizontally. The foam breaks irregularly. The dunes rise gently from the surface. The grass bends with the wind. Wet sand reflects the sky. The shoreline curves through the composition.
Instead of simply filling a seaside picture with blue, beige and green fibers, Coastal No.01 teaches you how to create the feeling of a coast using direction, surface height, fiber density, wave rhythm, reflection, and negative space.
The finished artwork does not simply show the coast.
It feels like the coast.
Shore • Wave • Dune Fiber Art
Coastal No.01 introduces a new kind of Yarnlume™ landscape. Where mountain projects are built around height and distance, Coastal No.01 is built around movement. The project combines open sky, distant horizon, layered ocean, breaking waves, sea foam, curved shoreline, wet reflective sand, raised dunes, windswept beach grass, and subtle coastal texture.
Every section uses a different directional language. The ocean moves sideways. The foam breaks forward. The sand stays low. The dunes rise. The grass leans. These changes in direction and height create the illusion of motion.
The Coast Is Never Still.
Even on a calm day, a shoreline is constantly changing. Waves arrive. Foam spreads. Water retreats. Sand darkens. Grass moves. Clouds pass. The edge between land and water never stays exactly the same. Coastal No.01 is designed around that movement. Rather than filling one static beach illustration, you gradually build an environment where every area behaves differently.
Coastal Plane Mapping
Build The Coast From Back To Front.
Coastal No.01 uses several visual planes to establish distance. The result creates a clear movement from distant horizon to immediate foreground.
- Plane 1 — Sky: Soft. Low. Quiet. Provides atmosphere without overwhelming the surface.
- Plane 2 — Distant Sea: Fine horizontal texture represents water near the horizon.
- Plane 3 — Rolling Water: Wave structure becomes more visible. Fiber direction becomes stronger.
- Plane 4 — Breaking Surf: Foam and raised wave edges begin moving toward the viewer.
- Plane 5 — Shore & Dune: Sand, grass and dune relief create the closest physical layer with the strongest texture.

Wave Rhythm Mapping
A Wave Is A Sequence—Not A Stripe.
One of the most important features of Coastal No.01 is the way the ocean is built. A real wave contains stages.
- Build: The swell begins to rise.
- Curl: The top edge becomes more pronounced.
- Break: Foam forms.
- Spread: Water moves across the shoreline.
- Retreat: The surface becomes flatter again.
Coastal No.01 uses repeated directional changes to suggest this rhythm. The result feels far more natural than placing several identical blue lines across the cloth.

Foam Relief Sculpting
Foam Is Where Texture Comes Alive.
Sea foam is one of the most dimensional parts of Coastal No.01. It can be created using lighter fibers and more irregular surface height.
Some foam remains low. Some rises slightly. Some areas stay looped. Others can be trimmed. This variation creates a soft, broken edge. The goal is not perfect repetition. Foam should feel unpredictable. That irregularity makes the water feel real.

Sand Dune Relief
Not All Sand Should Be Flat.
The shoreline remains low. The dunes rise. That contrast is essential. Coastal No.01 uses several layers of dune texture.
- Base Sand: Low and smooth.
- Dune Slope: Slightly raised directional fiber.
- Dune Crest: More defined texture.
- Wind-Carved Detail: Small variations suggest shifting sand.
This gives the foreground a soft sculptural shape.
Shoreline Curve & Wet Sand
The shoreline gently narrows into the distance, guiding perspective and eye movement. Wet sand becomes flatter, smoother, and slightly darker, reflecting subtle sky tones to add realism without complexity.
Wind Direction Grass System
Beach grass rarely stands straight. Coastal No.01 uses a guided direction system where clusters lean left or bend forward. Long and short fibers mix to prevent repetition, helping the viewer almost feel the wind.
Wave Direction System
Horizontal at distance. Curved near the shore. Breaking upward and forward. Foam scattered irregularly. Shore wash flatter and diagonal. These directional changes create movement even though the artwork is still.
Horizon Calm & Negative Space
A quiet horizon makes the waves, foam and grasses feel more dimensional. We deliberately include breathing zones around the sky, horizon, wet sand, and open water so the scene feels peaceful, not crowded.
Ocean Color Layering
Blue Is Never Just Blue.
The sea shifts between multiple tones depending on depth, distance and light. The palette includes: Mist Blue, Sea Glass, Slate Blue, Deep Ocean, Foam Ivory, Sand Beige, Driftwood Taupe, Dune Gold, Sea Grass Green, and Soft Sage. Distant water remains softer. Nearer waves become deeper. The result creates subtle depth without needing harsh color contrast.
From Blank Cloth To Coastline
Stage 1 & 2 — Horizon & Sky
Begin with the main horizontal boundary between sky and sea. Add low, gentle atmospheric texture. The sky should not compete with the coast.
Stage 3 & 4 — Distant Sea & Wave Rhythm
Use fine horizontal fiber direction for the first water plane. Then introduce several wave zones. Some rise, some curl, some remain smooth. The ocean should feel varied, not striped.
Stage 5 & 6 — Foam & Shoreline
Use lighter fibers to break the line and create irregular movement with foam. Then shape the curved boundary between water and land, letting it narrow toward the distance to create perspective.
Stage 7 & 8 — Wet Sand & Dunes
Lower the texture for wet sand and introduce smoother fiber direction with subtle reflected tones. Move upward from the flat sand to add directional dune fibers, building crests while keeping slopes soft.
Stage 9 & 10 — Beach Grass & Refinement
Work grass in clusters, varying direction and height to lean with the wind. Step back and check wave rhythm, shoreline curve, dune balance, and texture contrast. Small refinements make the entire scene feel more natural.

Designed For The Yarnlume™ Sculpting System
Coastal No.01 is designed as a Project Kit within the Yarnlume™ creative ecosystem. The core studio tools remain reusable. Your Project Kit focuses on the materials and guidance specific to the coast.
One studio. Many environments.
Made For Your Wall. Not Your Craft Drawer.
Coastal No.01 is designed as home décor from the beginning.
Its calm palette works beautifully with warm white walls, natural wood, linen, stone, ceramic décor, beach houses, modern coastal homes, Scandinavian interiors, organic modern spaces, and quiet luxury styling. It adds coastal feeling without relying on obvious anchors, shells or nautical clichés.
The Wave Doesn't Need To Move. Your Eye Does.
The fibers guide the viewer across the scene. The horizon moves horizontally. The waves curve. The foam spreads. The shoreline pulls inward. The grass leans. These visual directions create movement, making the piece feel dynamic while remaining completely still.
Light Changes The Coast Throughout The Day
Dimensional fiber responds beautifully to natural light. Morning light catches the foam. Side light creates shadows beneath raised dunes. Grass becomes more visible. The lake-like shine of wet sand changes. The finished artwork subtly changes as your room changes.

You Don't Need To Know How To Paint The Ocean.
The project uses principles found in traditional coastal painting and textile art, but you do not need painting experience. Instead of thinking about brush strokes, you learn fiber direction, surface height, density, rhythm, curve, reflection, and contrast.
No Knitting Required. No Crochet Required. No Traditional Embroidery Experience Required.
A Coast You Can Build Slowly.
One wave tonight. A section of foam tomorrow. Three grass clusters this weekend. There is no need to finish the whole scene at once. The project grows gradually. Ten minutes still counts. You do not need an ocean outside your window. You can build one on your table.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Coastal No.01?
Coastal No.01 is a dimensional coastal fiber-art Project Kit centered around waves, shoreline, sand dunes and beach grass. The project teaches how to create movement using fiber direction, texture height, wave rhythm and surface contrast.
Is Coastal No.01 the same as Landscape No.01?
They share the same Yarnlume™ creative system, but the techniques are different. Landscape No.01 focuses on mountain depth, forest perspective and lake reflection. Coastal No.01 focuses on wave movement, foam relief, shoreline perspective, dune height and wind-shaped grass.
Is the finished artwork three-dimensional?
Yes. Foam, dunes and selected grass areas can physically rise above flatter water, sand and sky sections.
Do I need the Sculpt Tool Studio Set?
Coastal No.01 is designed around the reusable Yarnlume™ sculpting system. If you already own the core tools, you can use them again with this Project Kit.
Why is the foam irregular and the water flatter than the dunes?
Natural sea foam rarely forms perfectly even lines; irregular texture makes the wave feel more organic. Keeping the water lower helps establish contrast, making the raised dunes and foam feel more dimensional.
Could I make it look like a specific beach?
Once you understand the basic structure, the coastal format is very suitable for customization. You can adjust water tone, dune color, grass density, shoreline shape, and sky to evoke a specific place.
