Landscape No.01 is the first project in the Yarnlume™ Landscape Collection. Where the Botanical Collection explores organic flowers and plant forms, Landscape No.01 introduces an entirely new creative language: distance, terrain, atmosphere, reflection, and scale.
The design combines distant mountain peaks, layered foothills, pine forest, calm lake water, soft sky, sculpted clouds, and foreground foliage. Each section uses a different fiber treatment to help create visual depth. The further something is from you, the quieter its texture becomes. The closer it comes, the richer and more dimensional it becomes. That simple principle drives the entire artwork.

Traditional landscape craft often treats everything on the surface equally. The mountain. The lake. The trees. The sky. Everything sits at nearly the same physical level. Landscape No.01 works differently. The artwork is divided into depth planes.

Landscape No.01 uses a guided Terrain Depth Mapping system. Instead of thinking only about color, you work through several physical depth zones.
- Level 1 — Atmospheric Background: Sky, far clouds, distant mountain haze. Remains low and subtle to create distance.
- Level 2 — Distant Mountain Plane: Mountain silhouettes, snow lines. Slightly more texture separates mountains from the sky.
- Level 3 — Midground Terrain: Foothills, distant forest, shoreline. Begins adding stronger contrast.
- Level 4 — Raised Forest: Pine trees, forest edges. The surface becomes noticeably more dimensional.
- Level 5 — Foreground Relief: Closest trees, grasses, rocks. Carries the strongest texture to move toward the viewer.
Mountain Ridge Architecture

The mountain range is one of the main focal structures, but it is not created as one flat block. It is constructed through several visual elements.

One of the most important principles in landscape art is scale. Distant Forest: Fine, compact, low texture. Midground Trees: More visible, moderate height. Foreground Pines: Bolder, more dimensional, individual branch structure. The fiber itself helps communicate distance.

Not Every Tree Needs To Be Individually Defined.
A distant forest is seen as mass. Far Forest uses tightly grouped fibers for continuous texture. Mid Forest introduces individual tree forms. Near Forest reveals distinct trunks, branches and foliage. This gradual transition creates realistic depth.
Lake Reflection & Horizontal Flow
The Lake Doesn't Copy The Landscape. It Translates It.
Water behaves differently from land. A reflection should feel softer, flatter, and slightly distorted. Landscape No.01 uses a separate reflection approach for the lake.
Mountain colors are repeated subtly. Forest tones appear darker and softer. Vertical fibers feel like trees; diagonal fibers feel like slopes. Horizontal fibers feel like water.
The lake uses predominantly horizontal fiber movement to create calm surface, subtle ripples, visual reflection, and horizontal balance. The eye immediately recognizes the change.

Instead of using white yarn in flat shapes, clouds are built with soft raised fibers. Edges remain soft, centers become fuller. Shadow creates volume. The sky feels deeper.

Farther means softer. Real landscapes lose contrast with distance. We use Mist Gray, Stone Blue, Soft Sky, Forest Sage, Deep Pine, Lake Blue, Snow Ivory, and Earth Brown. Far areas use softer contrast; foreground uses stronger definition.
Innovation No. 9 & 10: Mixed Terrain & Light
A cloud shouldn't feel like a pine tree. We use smooth sky fiber, soft cloud fiber, structured mountain fiber, and dimensional foreground fiber. Light and shadow are placed intentionally—bright ridges, shadow faces, and dark shorelines—to create shading through fiber.

Stage 1 & 2 — Horizon & Sky
Establish the main structural line separating sky, mountain and water. Then add subtle sky texture. Keep it quiet. The sky creates room for everything else.
Stage 3 & 4 — Mountains & Distant Forest
Establish main peaks, secondary ridges, snow lines, and shadow planes. The landscape begins to gain scale. Then create a compact band of fine tree texture. Avoid too much detail.
Stage 5 & 6 — Lake & Raised Forest
Move horizontally to introduce subtle reflections from mountain, forest, and sky. The composition begins to feel grounded. Then add more distinct pine forms, increasing texture gradually.
Stage 7 & 8 — Sculpt Foreground & Atmosphere
Introduce large pines, grasses, and rock texture. The closest terrain carries the strongest physical dimension. Refine cloud volume, snow accents, water highlights, and distant haze to connect the layers.
